WORKSHOPS and CAMPS
SUMMER CLAY CAMP. 1-4pm. Tuesday-Fridays. $45/day or 170/week Ages 7+ Kids have a blast over summer vacation in the pottery studio! They'll work on hand-built and wheel-thrown projects. By the end of the week, they'll get to decorate their art work. The pieces will get glazed for them and returned in a few weeks. New projects will be taught each week. Camps offered on the following weeks: · June 17-20 · June 24-27 · July 8-11 · July 15-18 · July 22-25 · July 29-Aug 1 · Aug 5-8 · Aug 12-15 · Aug 19-22
“GIVE IT A TRY.” 2-4pm. June 7. $20. This is a great opportunity for folks who aren't sure they want to commit to a full class session to come to the pottery studio and learn to throw on the pottery wheel. You'll choose a glaze color, and your pottery will be fired, glazed and returned to you within 3 weeks.
ALL-IN SATURDAY PROJECTS. Saturdays beginning June 21. 10am-Noon. $25. Each Saturday morning, we’ll be offering a different project for you to join in on! These will be appropriate for all pottery levels (unless otherwise noted) and all ages. Come with your kids, come with your friends. Please register by Thursday of that week. Projects to be announced.
ADULT CLAY CAMP: FIRING OUTDOORS. 9am-Noon, Tues-Thurs, July 22-24. $30/day plus $10/day fuel fees. You may sign up for single days or the full session. We’ll cover Raku, Horsehair, and some experimental techniques. You should have 10+ pieces of bisqueware prior to the week.
GLAZING: BEYOND THE BASICS. Saturday, June 21. 1-3:30pm $35: This workshop is for potters who have done some glazing in the past, but find themselves with questions or problems. You’ll learn new techniques, as well as discuss problems, get questions answered, and share ideas. Bring lots of bisqueware to test techniques on. Spraying glazes will also be covered. Bring your mask!
RAKU WORKSHOP. Saturday, June 28. 12:30pm until we’re done. $45: Raku is one of the few ways to get “instant gratification” in the pottery world! Be a part of the firing process in this exciting workshop. You’ll load your glazed pieces into our outdoor kiln, watch the pieces become red hot, and then help with moving them to their “reduction chambers.” Moments later, your cooled pieces will emerge with (hopefully) stunning results. All pieces must be glazed prior to June 27th. There will be no glazing on the day of the workshop. This workshop is weather dependant.
ADULT SUMMER CLASSES
BEGINNING POTTERY. Our beginning wheel throwing class starts with the basics…how to prepare your clay for the wheel, and how to throw a basic cylinder. Each week, you’ll learn new techniques that will build on the past weeks. Create bowls, mugs and plates. Some handbuilding will also be taught, including basic slab building and extruding. You’ll learn glazing as well—both simple dipping and underglazing as well as more complex layering and wax resist techniques.
INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED POTTERY. 6-8:30pm, Mondays. For those who are comfortable with wheel-throwing basic skills such as centering, pulling and trimming, we've designed a course that takes you to the next level. This class provides demonstrations and instruction on more complex forms (e.g., altered forms, surface texture, multiple parts and large vessels) coupled with handbuilding techniques to use on their own or as additions to your wheel work. · Session 1: June 16-July 21. $180. · Session 2: July 28-August 25. $150. GUIDED OPEN TOPICS. 9:30-Noon, Tuesdays. Do you have clay experience and lots of ideas, but need some help with the execution? Bring your own ideas to class and share them with the group. You’ll inspire others and get technical support and guidance. This class is not for beginning potters, but rather for those who have clay skills and don’t need the structure of a regular class. Be ready to take your own direction and discover your own creativity.

This private or semi-private 2-day class includes materials and will be taught at the instructor’s studio in Putnam, CT. Dates and times to be scheduled with student. $300.
